Lake Jackson Citizen’s Association General Meeting

I.                   Call to Order 7:34 PM

II.               Motion to accept minutes from last meeting – passed

III.            Old Business

A.                 Clean up day was a great success

1.                  PWC will help us sponsor another in the fall (towards the end of Sept-Oct)

2.                  Take note of “stuff” sitting around (appliances, boats, tires, etc.) to get it on the move out list

IV.             New Business

A.                 Citizen of the Year

1.                  reinstate the award - decide what the criteria will be, how to nominate, when to award and what the prize will be

2.                  Idea for two categories (youth and adult) proposed – name categories after previous donors/citizens

B.                 New Board members are planning to organize/sort inherited documents

1.                  Plans to retrieve documents from Dam House where they are not protected

2.                  Need to find storage to protect our historical documents (the goal is to set aside storage space in the firehouse for these documents).

3.                  Make agreements regarding access to documents by appt in Firehouse to allay security concerns

C.                 Big Beach – sycamore tree down organizing community tree removal on Jun 5th weekend

1.                  Sam (tree is adjacent to his property) has offered to pay $100 to drop the tree

2.                  We will need chainsaws and trucks

D.                Poker Run Jun 12th (rain date Jun 13th)

1.                  May schedule the BBQ to precede the Poker Run to increase attendance at BOTH events

2.                  Ways the BBQ was handled in past years, other events like Casino Night, raffles, 50/50, Parade

3.                  BBQ will be free this year – bring a side dish to share

4.                  Motion to allocate a $250 budget to BBQ committee - passed

E.                 Trying to add value to being a member (e.g. discounted prices for LJ social events)

1.                  Membership Drive to increase knowledge and membership

F.                  Websites – need to get updated, official website has been paid for

G.                 Road Committee Update – estimate of final amount 17.5 cents/$100

1.                  Snow plow contractor was not paid for unfinished snow plow work – PWC decided that work he claimed was not well documented enough and supported LJ decision to terminate contract

2.                  Verizon laid FIOS lines on Coles side of lake, nothing on Cobb Side. In addition, Verizon did not repair roads to original or acceptable condition, so we should ask for some assistance in providing materials to repair roads where cable was laid. In addition, we need to pursue continuation of moving the boxes that were improperly installed – we will send a member email out to refine out position and estimate of exact needs for repair.
